Study Tips for Online Learning
Carefully read all written material received from your
instructor. Follow the course syllabus, paying attention to
benchmarks.
Develop
a regular schedule for viewing programs
and completing readings and special assignments. Avoid
disruptions and distractions during the time you have
reserved for viewing and studying.
Keep up with assignments and readings.
Complete the assigned readings and study guide activities
before you view each program.
Whenever you have questions or concerns,
contact your professor by phone or
e-mail for help if you have trouble understanding a
unit of study.
Plan to spend at
least 10 hours per week on each distance education course.
Make sure you have access to all of the written material
from the professor as well as the
textbook and study guide.
Identify a study partner for each course or form a small
group of three to five people.
Develop a set of notes for each unit of the course so you
can review for examinations without having to read the
entire text just before the exam.
Develop a vocabulary list of terms that are important to the
course, especially those that are
unfamiliar to you. Write definitions in your own words
and review them at the end of each reading or after viewing
the programs.
