Chipola College and the Jackson Blue Spring Basin Working Group Project Project Director:
Allan Tidwell
The Jackson Blue Spring Basin Working Group Project is designed to coordinate the efforts of the Working Group within the district, with emphasis on Blue Spring in Marianna, Jackson County, Florida. Blue Spring is a "first magnitude" spring, one of 33 first magnitude springs in the state of Florida. Magnitude levels indicate the amount of water that flows from the spring. Blue Spring has the second highest nitrate levels of any first magnitude spring in Florida. Because the Blue Spring and related waters are valuable resources to the community, the Working Group will focus on educating stakeholders about how the various land use practices effect the spring and identify and promote best management practices within the spring shed. This webpage will serve as a portal of information for all to learn about Jackson Blue Spring. Dates, times, and locations of meetings and events of interest will be posted, as will community events relating to the springs, such as "Old Timer's Day" and the Chipola River cleanup efforts. The Working Group Project has been in place for a number of years, but this grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will strengthen the group's efforts. If you have any questions about the Working Group, projects, events, etc, please contact Allan Tidwell at the telephone number or e-mail address listed above. |
