Marianna—Chipola College’s Student Support Services (SSS) students participated in a TRIO Day of Service on Jan. 23 to express appreciation to the college and community for their support of the TRIO programs as well as celebrate the establishment of Federal TRiO programs. Students served in the concessions stand during the Chipola vs. Tallahassee basketball games.
The event commemorates the achievements of the Federal TRIO programs in communities across the country and raises the awareness about the importance of educational opportunity for all students.
Chipola Student Support Services Director, Kristie Mosley, said, “Chipola’s TRIO program is making a world of difference for students. For more than 50 years, TRIO has provided valuable support services to help students enter college and graduate.” TRIO services include: assistance in choosing a college; financial aid applications; financial and career counseling;workplace and college visits; and academic support in reading, writing,mathematics and study skills.
More than 1,000 colleges, universities, and community agencies host more than 2,800 TRIO projects that serve approximately 820,000 young people and adults. The TRIO program includes students from all races and backgrounds.
