MARIANNA—The Chipola baseball team hosts Tallahassee Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. and Pensacola, Monday, April 15, at 5 p.m.
Chipola is second in the Panhandle Conference race at 11-5 behind Northwest at 13-3. Tallahassee is 8-8, Gulf Coast is 5-11 and Pensacola is 3-13.
Sophomore infielder Ivan Johnson leads the Indians in hitting with a .402 batting average, a .641 slugging average, 30 RBI, 6 homeruns and 9 stolen bases.
Cameron Gray (4-0) leads Chipola’s pitchers with a 2.2 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Gray is also one of the team’s top offensive players with a .309 batting average, 29 RBI and 28 runs scored in 38 games.
The conference race ends April 27 with the top two teams in the league making the state tournament. Chipola is the two-time defending national, state and Panhandle Conference champion.
