Chipola's retired coach Milton H. Johnson explains the Chipola
Appreciation Club's purpose as "to help the college maintain a
quality athletic program." The goal of the club is,
ultimately, to totally endow the athletic programs. Through
its gigantic once-a-year fund raiser, the Wild Game Dinner, the club
has amassed more than $700,000 over the past nine years. This
money will eventually be used to fund athletic scholarships.
Funds in the endowment will never be spent; only the proceeds will
be used.
In the words of a previous president, and former
Chipola basketball player, Robert Trammell, "It's only a matter of
time before all state funding for athletics is cut off. We
want to be ready for that day." The club also
sponsors this media guide and conducts an annual membership drive.
Membership benefits include special seating at games and
refreshments in the Appreciation Club Room.
