"Success at higher
levels begins with proper training and direction in the early
stages...," says Buck Showalter, one of Chipola's most famous
graduates. In 1991, he was named manager of the New York Yankees
and became the youngest manager in the major league baseball.
He was named Manager of the Year in 1994.
Showalter is quick to
praise the education he received at Chipola. "Attending a
college so close to home gave me the opportunity to
grow intellectually and emotionally," says Showalter.
"At Chipola, I was
able to sharpen my baseball skills as part of a quality program,
which eventually allowed me to enjoy success at Mississippi State
and through my career in professional baseball. I still
carry with me many of the lessons I learned at Chipola, both on
and off the baseball field."
