Clevin Hannah's mind was
almost made up before he
arrived in Wichita for
his recruiting visit.
It didn't take long for
Wichita State's
basketball coaches and
players to remove any
doubt. Hannah, a point
guard from Chipola
(Fla.) College, orally
committed to WSU on
Saturday night during
his visit.
"It seemed like I
will fit in real good,"
he said. "It's a nice
situation for me."
Hannah (5-foot-11,
160 pounds) is the
second player to commit
to WSU this fall. He
joins Houston Klein
Forest High guard Toure
Murry, and both say they
intend to sign when the
signing period begins
Nov. 14. WSU coaches
cannot comment on
recruits until they sign
a letter of intent.
Several advantages
helped WSU make a good
impression on Hannah.
Chipola coach Greg Heiar
played and coached for
WSU assistant Chris Jans.
Hannah played last
season at Paris (Texas)
College, where he teamed
with current Shocker
Ramon Clemente.
With those
connections, Hannah
focused his attention on
WSU. Heiar said programs
such as Illinois,
Minnesota and Iowa might
have entered the picture
had Hannah waited to
sign until the spring.
"When he got back, he
talked about the people
they had up there, and
it starts with Coach
(Gregg) Marshall," Heiar
said. "Those guys were
great. The players
really showed him that
they're serious about
winning."
Hannah earned
honorable mention
all-region honors at
Paris last season, when
he averaged 10.8 points
and shot 39 percent from
three-point range.
Hannah averaged 19
points and nine assists
for Holly Springs
(Miss.) as a high school
senior.
"He's a playmaker,"
Heiar said. "He is a
true point guard, a guy
that makes great
decisions with the
basketball."
Heiar also likes the
fact defenses can't
ignore Hannah as a
three-point threat.
"He's a pure shooter
from out to about 23
feet," Heiar said. "He
can score in a variety
of ways."
