The final remnants of the Chipola class of 2008 have began to
finalize their moves for next season, capping off what was one of
the greatest seasons in school history.
Sophomores Joey Cameron (University of New Orleans), Antwon Hall
(Talladega College), and Decoya White (Talladega College), along
with freshmen Vernon Teel (Loyola Marymount University) and Tyler
Schwab (Spring Hill College), have joined the five Indians that had
previously committed to four-year schools to continue their careers
next season.
Freshman Artem Slippenchuck, who hails from the Ukraine, has chosen
to leave the program to pursue his professional career overseas.
“I’m really happy that these guys have been able to find great
places for next season,” said Chipola coach Greg Heiar. “They join
the other great players that this program has helped to produce and
I wish them each success.”
During the fall signing period, sophomores Malik Alvin (Binghamton
University), Mario Edwards (Coastal Carolina), Clevin Hannah
(Wichita State University), Mario Little (Kansas University), and
Skyler Williams (Lamar University) decided upon their respective
schools.
Sophomore Eddie King is still considering his options.
“Ultimately, to have twelve players of this caliber that are able to
continue on to the next level is something rare and very special,”
said Heiar. “The contributions that these young men have made to our
program cannot be measured merely by wins. Their footprint has
helped build a solid foundation, one that our school and community
can take pride in.”
The 35-2 final record posted by the 2007-2008 team set a school
record for the number of wins in a season. Additionally, the Indians
set a school record for longest winning streak (24 in a row) and
best start to a season at 24-0.
