Chipola Gives Back to the Community
Chipola
College Men’s Basketball Team collected more than 92 lbs of
non-perishable food items during the first “Harvest Hoops Food
Drive.” During
Thursday night’s game against Cape Fear, fans were
encouraged to drop off food items in return for free admission to
the game. The donated items were delivered to the Jackson County Floridan Wednesday afternoon by Head Coach Greg Heiar and Assistant
Coach Joc Calloway. The items will be distributed to needed
families in the surrounding communities by the Chipola Family
Ministries food bank.
According to CFM Director Fred Cook, the client base for CFM has grown significantly as the unemployment rate climbed. The nonprofit organization distributed more than 80,000 pounds of food over the past 11 months.
“We are glad to be able to help the community through these donations. During the Thanksgiving holiday season, we set time aside to be thankful for all that has been given to us,” said Coach Greg Heiar. “Our fans were unbelievable in their generous donations. It shows the true heart of our community.”
The CFM sees clients on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm, at its location on Highway 71.
