Assistant Coach Matt Anderson
1st Year at Chipola
Matt Anderson begins his first season as assistant coach with the Chipola basketball program after spending 22 years in the high school arena. A 1980 graduate of Ponce de Leon High School, Anderson completed their first two years of college at Chipola and transfer to the University of West Florida, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
Anderson spent his first 8 years as an assistant at Ponce de Leon (4 years) and Malone (4 years). While assisting both boys and girls at Ponce de Leon, the 1989 women’s team won the state championship and finished with an overall record of 32-0. While as an assistant at Malone for Head Coach John Ellerbee, Anderson help lead the Tigers to state championships in 1991 and 1994, while also making the championship game in 1993.
Coach Anderson took over the reigns at Malone and continued the pursuit of excellence by winning state championships in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998. During the 1999 season, Malone once again made an appearance in the final four.
Upon leaving Malone, Anderson traveled back to his alma mater, Ponce de Leon, and led them to their first district title in 25 years in 2003. After leaving Ponce, Anderson journeyed down to Bay High in Panama City, Florida, where his Tornadoes advanced into the state playoffs 2 out of 4 years while competing in one of the toughest districts in the state of Florida.
