Kelly Boehmer received her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art and her MFA from the University of South Florida.
Kelly works in mixed media, soft sculpture, collage, installation, and performance. Brightly colored fabrics, glitter, beads, and faux fur are the main materials for her hand-sewn sculptures. The work is about the absurdity and beauty that she finds, while investigating her personal history, fantasies, religion, and family. The artworks have nostalgic, playful, pitiful, magical, silly, and chaotic qualities.
She has performed and exhibited her work nationally and internationally including shows in Miami, FL, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kelly teaches at Chipola College, Pyramid Studios, Florida State University, and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh (Online Division).
