His teachers in the U.S. have included composer Thomas Coffey, renowned performer Stephen Robinson, French virtuoso Judicael Perroy, and Bruce Holzman. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Stetson University and was granted a graduate teaching assistantship at Florida State University. Stroud has participated in master classes given by Oscar Ghiglia, the Assad duo, Paul Galbraith, Roland Dyens, Eduardo Fernandez, Paco Pena, and many of the world’s finest guitarists. Among his competitive accolades are prizes at the 2001, 2002, and 2007 Columbus State Guitar Symposium, the 2003 Guitare Lachine competition in Montreal (as a semi-finalist), the prestigious 2006 Guitar Foundation of America (as a semi-finalist) and the 2006 Christopher Parkening competition – the world’s largest prize competition for guitar. He was invited to perform in the Festival Mediterreano della Chitarra in Italy in 2004. Stroud also has given many concerts throughout the U.S. both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He has performed in diverse roles ranging from orchestral music to opera (with the Orlando opera company) to his duo with Jason Aldridge. While he attended Stetson University, he was chosen to perform as the featured soloist at the Gala Concert held in West Palm Beach. He was also chosen to be a featured soloist at the 2000 Community College Music Symposium, hosted by Stetson University. He also accompanied mezzo-soprano and Metropolitan Opera singer Jane Christenson. In 2001 he was asked to perform under the direction of renowned Welsh conductor Anthony Hose in a festival in celebration of Gerald Finzi’s music. In 2002 he performed at the Veteran World Fencing Championships Gala. Among his other endeavors have been lectures, master-classes, and teaching. He has taught at Stetson University’s Community School for the Arts, at Florida State University, and as a guest of schools throughout Florida. He has published and recorded for the Hands On Teaching method, and has published articles in Soundboard magazine. Stroud is a doctoral candidate at Florida State University.
