MARIANNA—The
Chipola College production of “I Hate Hamlet,” opens a four-day run
Thursday, Nov. 2.
Tickets—$7 for adults and $5 for students—are available
weekdays in the college Business Office from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Chipola students and employees get one free ticket.
For the courtesy of theatre patrons, no one under age 5 will be
admitted. Recommended age for the subject matter is 13.
Chipola Theater director Charles Sirmon cast local
actors in the following roles: Brittany Holmes as Felicia Dantine,
Kevin Russell as Andrew Rally, Shannon Grice as Deirdre McDavey,
Danuta Jacob as Lillian Troy, Mike Milton as John Barrymore and
Chris Calton as Gary Peter Lefkowitz. Rowdy Wilbur will serve as the
stage manager for the show.
The Paul Rudnick comedy tells the story of a young,
successful television actor who relocates to New York, where he
rents a gothic apartment. With his career in limbo, the actor is
offered the opportunity to play Hamlet onstage, but there’s one
problem: he hates
Hamlet.
To add to his troubles, Andrew’s series has been
cancelled; and his girlfriend is clinging to her virtue with
unyielding conviction.
When Andrew’s agent visits him, she reminisces about
her brief romance with John Barrymore many years ago, prompting a
séance that summons Barrymore’s ghost. The action becomes more
hilarious with the entrance of Andrew’s deal-making friend from LA,
spouting the laid-back hype of the Coast and offering Andrew a
fabulous new TV deal worth millions.
The laughs are nonstop as Andrew wrestles with his
conscience, Barrymore, his sword, and the fact that he fails as
Hamlet in Central Park.
