The Romancers

May 12, 2005

The Chipola College production of the Children’s play, “The Romancers,” is set for Thursday, May 12, at 7 p.m., in the Chipola Theater.

The comedy is based on the book by Edmon Rostand. Chipola director Charles Sirmon, says, “This hilarious show draws from Rostand’s main plotline and infuses it with characters, scenarios and a commedia dell’arte performance style which originated in the streets during the early Italian Renaissance.” According to Sirmon, the Italian street performers used acrobatic skills and physical comedy to help establish commedia as a genre of theatre in the mid-1500s.
