Proactive Intervention Skills:

• Changing the pace of activities

• Removing seductive objects

• Interest boosting of a student off-task

• Redirecting behavior

• Encouraging the appropriate behavior of other students

• Providing cues for expected behaviors

Remedial Intervention Skills

Level 1: Nonverbal

• Ignoring

• Signal Interference

• Proximity

• Touch

Level 2: Verbal

• Hints – Adjacent Reinforcement, Calling on student, Humor                      

• Questions – Awareness of the effect

• Requests/demands – I messages, direct appeal, positive phrasing, Are Not For’s, reminder of the rules, Glasser’s Triplets, Explicit Redirection, Canter’s Broken Record

Level 3: Consequences          

Optional idea:  Write a memo to the teacher (in the video) complementing her strengths and suggesting at least one change in her classroom management style for task 2.1.2 (unless you are completely finished with that task.)  This can check off Communicate High Expectations or Convey ideas and information clearly, and Colleagues or Community specialists
