Grades for this course will be based on three categories:

                                            Tests 40%

                                            "Curriculum Integration Project." 20%

POLICY CONCERNING TESTS, EXAMINATIONS AND ATTENDANCE:

The assignments given must be completed by the deadline given in class. If a student misses a test or an assignment deadline for a substantiated, excused reason, he/she will have the option of taking a make-up. Arrangements for the make-up must be made on the first day of class that the student returns to campus.

The final examination assignment must be completed by all students who receive a satisfactory grade in this course.

WARNING: FAILURE TO DO THE MAKE-UP BY THE END OF THE FINAL EXAMINATION PERIOD WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC ZERO (0) FOR THE MISSED WORK.

Leaving a Class:

Any student leaving a class before the instructor dismisses the class will be counted absent for the particular class period unless prior explanation is given.

NOTE: Chipola Class Attendance Policy*

Regular attendance is expected of all students. Each student is accountable to the instructor concerned for all class absences except those due to official college activities.

Evaluation of absences is the responsibility of the instructor. Students with excessive absences may suffer grade loss at the discretion of the instructor. Any student who flagrantly violates attendance regulations is subject to suspension or dismissal. If absences become so excessive that continued attendance has little or no value, instructors may notify the student concerned in writing and request a conference by a stated date. Further absence may result in administrative withdrawal from the course.*

*The instructor will not administratively withdraw a student.

NEW STATE REQUIREMENTS/REGULATIONS:

Each student is allowed a maximum of three attempts to pass any given course. On the third attempt the student must pay for the full cost of instruction (which is currently out-of-state fees). If you have made any previous attempts at this course, please discuss this with the instructor. Be aware that a withdrawal from a course is considered an attempt.

Course Objectives:

"Technology for Teachers" is an introductory course designed to train instructors and potential instructors in the possibilities and practical applications of new media and new technologies for classroom and individualized instruction.

After an initial discussion of computing literacy, this course will center on the educational theory behind sound computer-driven and computer-supported instruction. Both the enhanced delivery of traditional classroom instruction and the special challenges of laboratory individualized instruction will be discussed.

Participants will receive instruction on and interaction with the technology tools which facilitate the new instructional models: multimedia computers, videodisc players, projection devices, networked classrooms, and on-line information resources (such as the Internet). The course will conclude with individualized curriculum integration projects, each designed to create "classroom ready" instructional technology tools for course participants.
