This program is designed to prepare students for employment as a surveying and mapping technician and to provide training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations. Students will learn transferable skills as well as obtain an understanding of surveying and mapping in the areas of planning, management, finance, technical and product skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental issues.
Shop and laboratory activities are an integral part of this program and provide instruction in chaining, rod and level activities, angle measurements, electronic distance measurement, land surveying and construction layout.
Surveying and Mapping follows a sequence of instruction and when followed, the structure will allow students to complete specified portions of the program for employment or to remain for advanced training. Basic skills remediation may be required as indicated by the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education).
