The Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) Admission Assessment is required as a part of the application process for the RN program. Chipola requires applicants to take only the reading and math portions of the exam.
About the HESI
Completion of the HESI Admission Assessment™ (AČ) is a part of the requirements for consideration for admission to the Chipola College Nursing Program.
The HESI is administered in the Testing Center (Room 149) in the Student Services Building (A).
The HESI is a computerized test. Test takers should allow approximately two (2) hours to complete the examination.
Candidates need to be aware that each question has a different point value. It is to your advantage to supply an answer for each question, but keep in mind when receiving your scores that two individuals who have the same number of correct answers may earn a different overall score based on the weight of the test questions they answered correctly.
The HESI Study Guide is available for purchase in the Chipola bookstore. Study guides may be ordered directly from HESI by calling 1-800-545-2522. The cost is $25.00 plus shipping charges. A currently enrolled student may check out a copy of the HESI Study Guide from the Chipola library.
Exam modules contained in the HESI administered at Chipola College include the following:
Fifty (50) test items related to math concepts required when calculating drugs and solution problems. Sub-scoring of the following categories is provided:
- Ratio and Proportion
- Household Measures
- General Math Facts (Roman Numerals, Military Time, etc.)
Reading Comprehension Forty-seven (47) test items measure reading comprehension, identifying the main idea, finding meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, and making logical inferences. Reading scenarios are related to health care topics.
The HESI is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year. Students should schedule an appointment on RegisterBlast. Seating is limited and test appointments must be made at least 24 hours prior to the desired testing date.
The HESI will NOT be offered during college registration dates which are listed on the Chipola College calendar.A student may retake the HESI no sooner than the 61st day after a previous attempt. Doing so will invalidate his or her score.
The fee for the HESI is $43.50 payable at when the testing appointment is scheduled throught RegisterBlast. The $43.50 fee covers only the math and reading sections of the HESI as required by Chipola College. (The fee is $68.50 for examinees who take additional subtests of the HESI.)
