27th State Brain Bowl Championship

Brain Bowl Team
The 2007-2008 Brain Bowl State Tournament will be held March 27-29, 2008, in Marianna, Florida. This is the 27th Florida State Brain Bowl Tournament. Chipola College will host the event for the first time in school history. The purpose of Brain Bowl competition is to recognize outstanding student academic achievement, to help foster community interest on academic excellence in our community colleges, and to help foster relations among faculty and students.

On February 1-2, 2008, four regional tournaments were held to determine the participants for the 2008 State Tournament. Ten teams have qualified for the tournament. Students representing Brevard Community College, Broward Community College, Chipola College, Indian River Community College, Lake-Sumter Community College, Manatee Community College, Okaloosa-Walton College, Pasco-Hernando Community College, Pensacola Junior College, and Valencia Community College will compete head-to-head in a round robin format to determine the state champion. Okaloosa-Walton College will again be in the field. They are the defending state champions and have won the championship three of the last four years.

The host school, Chipola College, will also be in the field. The Chipola team has been very successful this year. They have won three tournaments and have at least made it to the semi-finals in every junior college tournament they have entered. Chipola recently won the Georgia National Academic Quiz Tournament Sectional in Athens, Georgia, which qualifies them for the national tournament to be held in St. Louis, Missouri, April 11-12, 2008. They will be one of only eight junior colleges, including Valencia Community College, the defending national champion, competing at the tournament. Chipola College team members are Mark Hodge, Jantzen Whitehead, Chuck Bryant, Trey Paul, and Mitchell Whitehead.
