CHIPOLA LADY INDIANS DOMINATE IN FIRST ROUND IN NATIONAL TOURNEY

          SALINA, KS The Chipola College Lady Indians defeated the Sheridan College (WY) “Lady Generals”, 86-47, in their first round game in the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 18, in the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas.

          WBCA All American Latoya Williams led Chipola with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Lenita Sanford added 16 points and led in rebounds with 14.  Marneisha Hall scored 12. Sequoyah Griffin contributed 8 to the win. 

          Chipola led the tournament’s first round defensive stats with the least amount of points allowed during their game (47), an 80% defensive rebound average and 57 defensive stops.  The Lady Indians dominated each half outscoring the Lady Generals almost two to one with 23-40 in the first half and 24-46 in the second half.  The ladies held the NJCAA leading scorer Sheridan’s Taynee Robinson to half of her season average with only 15 points.  Sheridan’s Mandy Mullock also ranked in the NJCAA poll with an average of 8.8 rebounds per game was held to 5 in the Chipola game.  Chipola’s Williams is also ranked sixteenth nationally with an average of 10 rebounds per game.

          Chipola’s overall record stands at (28 – 5). The Lady Indians advance to the second round and will play Walters State Community College from Morristown, TN at 8 p.m. CST on Thursday.

Chipola All American Latoya Williams offers 22 points in Chipola’s first round victory against Sheridan College (WY) in the NJCAA National Women’s Basketball Tournament this week in Salina, KS. Chipola’s Lenita Sanford led the Lady Indians with 14 rebounds to a dominating 86-47 win over Sheridan College (WY) in the first round game of the NJCAA National Tourney.

CHIPOLA LADY INDIANS ADVANCE TO FINAL FOUR IN NATIONAL TOURNEY

 March 19

           SALINA, KS The Chipola College Lady Indians defeated the Walters State (TN) “Lady Senators”, 66-53, to clinch a spot in the Final Four of the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 19, in the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas.
            Latoya Williams led Chipola with 25 points. Ashlie Billingslea and Lenita Sanford both added 12 points.  Sanford led in rebounds with 9.  Williams ranks second in scoring currently in the tournament with an average of 23.5 points per game.  Billingslea ranks first in steals with an average of 5 per game.

            Chipola still leads the tournament defensively with the least amount of points allowed against the Lady Indians averaging 50 points per game. Chipola’s overall record stands at 29 – 5. The Lady Indians advance to the semi-final round and will play Jefferson County Community College from Hillsboro, MS at 8 p.m. CST on Friday.

LADY INDIANS LOSE BID FOR NATIONAL TITLE

 March 20

           SALINA, KS The Chipola College Lady Indians were defeated tonight ,78-59, by the Jefferson College (MO) Vikings in the semi-final round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Tournament in the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas.
            Latoya Williams led Chipola with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Marneshia Hall added 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Pearl Johnson, Jamia Akins, and Lenita Sanford had 5 rebounds each.

Chipola’s overall record stands at 29 – 6. The Lady Indians will play Kakaskia College from Centrailia, IL for third place at 5 p.m. CST on Saturday.

LADY INDIANS MAKE HISTORY AND TAKE THIRD IN NATIONAL TOURNEY
March 20

 March 21

           SALINA, KS The Chipola College Lady Indians made school history defeating Kaskaskia College (IL), 81-74, to finish third in the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Tournament in the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas.  This is the highest finish in the history of the women’s program at Chipola. 

            Chipola finished fourth in 2006 and fifth in 2007.
            Marneshia Hall led Chipola with23 points and 5 rebounds. Latoya Williams earned a double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.  Lenita Sanford added 9 points and 5 rebounds.

            WBCA All American Latoya Williams finished third in the tournament in scoring with 71 total points and an average of 19.5 points per game.  Williams finished first in three point scoring hitting 7 of 8 for an 87.5 percentage. Lenita Sanford took fourth in most blocks with 10 for the tournament.  Ashlie Billinslea had 13 steals to rank third.

            Latoya Williams and Marneshia Hall were named to the NJCAA All Tournament Team.

The Lady Indians finish their season at 30-6.

Central Arizona College defeated Jefferson College (MO) for the NJCAA Championship, 78-71.
