campaign in honor of her family.
Moneyham purchased two gold stars, one in honor of her children, John Moneyham
(Chipola Class of 1982) and Janet Moneyham Booth (Chipola Class of 1984). The
other star is in memory of her late husband Waymon Moneyham (Chipola Class of
1955). Permanent stars marking the gifts will be
displayed in the foyer of the theater.
Mrs. Moneyham, says, “Chipola has meant a great deal to my family and we have

schoolchildren, as well as facility enhancements.
The campaign features three ways for
community partners to give. In the “Be

organization. Orchestra (main floor) seat plaques are $250, with Balcony Seat
Plaques available for $150.

CHIPOLA STUDENT WINS $20,000 BUICK
SCHOLARSHIP
DETROIT– Chipola College graduate Adriane Guettler of Chipley has been
awarded a $20,000 from the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program.
Guettler plans to attend Florida State University as a Mechanical
Engineering major. She hopes to pursue a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering to
realize her dream of working in the automotive industry.
Guettler received the Chipola President’s Award for maintaining a perfect
4.0 GPA during her two years at Chipola. She also won the Calculus I award as
the top student in all classes. She was valedictorian of Chipley High School for
which she received a scholarship to Chipola. She also is a Florida Bright
Futures Florida Academic Scholar.
During her time at Chipola Guettler served as Scholarship Officer in the
Chipola chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. She was vice president of
the Chipola Honors Club and a Sophomore Senator in the Student Government
Association. She was a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honorary, Chipola Student
Ambassadors and the Chipola Science Club.
Guettler is a certified academic tutor and works in the Chipola Academic
Center for Excellence (ACE). Bonnie Smith, Director of the ACE, says, “Adriane
is a great student and a great person. In addition to maintaining a perfect
academic record, she has helped many students with their studies as a tutor in
the ACE.” Smith, who works closely with Chipola’s top students, says Guettler’s
$20,000 scholarship may be the largest ever awarded to a Chipola student.
Guettler’s interests outside of school include designing, building, and
finishing wooden furniture; gardening and riding dirt bikes.
Guettler is one of 100 national winners of the 2012 Buick Achievers
Award. The nearly $9 million scholarship program launched by Buick and the
General Motors Foundation in 2011 rewards outstanding students who demonstrate
excellence in the classroom and community.
Vivian Pickard, president, GM Foundation, said, “The impact the Buick
Achievers Scholarship will have on these students is immeasurable. They will
have the freedom to attend and excel in college without the financial pressures
most students face.”
With the future of manufacturing and related industries driven by new
technologies, Buick and the GM Foundation developed the Buick Achievers
Scholarship Program to support students interested in science, technology,
engineering, math, and other related fields of study.
Guettler’s scholarship is renewable for up to four years and one
additional year for qualified five-year engineering programs.

CHIPOLA
AUTOMOTIVE WINS EXEMPLARY PRACTICE AWARD
MARIANNA—The Chipola College Automotive Technology program project has
been selected to receive an Exemplary Practice Award from the Association of
Florida Colleges
Occupational and Workforce Education Commission.
The project, “Time to Reinvent the Wheel,” was presented by John Gardner,
Chipola Automotive instructor; Chase Vlieg, Automotive teaching assistant and
Dr. Jason Hurst, Chipola vice-president of Baccalaureate and Occupational
Education. The Chipola group will present the project again at the AFC Fall
Convention in October.
Dr. Hurst said, “We are extremely pleased to win the Exemplary Practice
Award. I have personally been involved with automotive programs in a
couple of different states and Chipola’s Auto Tech Program is one of the best in
the country.”
Chipola’s automotive technology program is centered on today’s students.
Instructor John Gardner says, “Today’s technologically savvy students grew up
with computers, cell phones and video games. If we wanted a successful program
in today’s ‘I want it now,’ microwave society, our program had to evolve as
well. In order to do so, we had to reinvent the wheel.”
Gardner said outdated training videos with slow animation were not
holding the students’ attention. He formed a partnership with the entertainment
industry to create a new, fast-paced “Infotainment” training system. Infobase
Learning and Films Media Group agreed to work with Chipola, ACI and
film experts Brenton Productions to produce
an ASE Automotive Training Video Series. Brenton produces several TV shows,
including Two Guys Garage, Hi Rev Tuners, Shadetree Mechanic, Crank &
Chrome and Wounded Warrior series.
The Chipola team created the
first-ever ASE Certification series written by, and starring, two practicing
automotive technology instructors with over 22 years of combined experience.
Each segment contains: Hands on Demonstrations, Parts Identification, Theory of
Operation, Professionalism Dialogue, Motivational Tips, ASE Preparation and ASE
Style Questions. The no-fluff informative videos are 3-10 minutes each, and
designed for use on internet-based programs or as stand-alone DVD’s.
Gardner says the series was strategically scripted to meet the needs of
today’s automotive students, instructors and technicians. The programs also were
designed to meet the needs of all three types of learners: visual, audio and
kinesthetic. All content includes graphics, close-ups of components and
parts-labeling, ASE questions with highlighted answers, all with live
demonstrations with tools and equipment to involve the audience in the learning
process.
Dr. Hurst said, “Our students today are born into a
technologically-advanced world and we as educators must change the way we do
business. This new fast-paced infotainment training system keeps our
students’ interest and helps prepare them for the workforce.”
Any institution can implement the DVD’s into their current program.
Gardner says the impact of the DVD series has been nationwide. Automotive
publishers Infobase Learning, Films on Demand, Goodheart-Wilcox, Delmar, Cengage
Learning and Pearson are currently developing their automotive curricula with
this system.
The Chipola Automotive program also was selected as a runner-up for a
2012 Bellwether Award in the Workforce Development division. The program was a
Bellwether runner-up in 2006 and won Florida’s Best Business and Education
partnership in 2004.
Chipola utilizes an industry-based curriculum in partnership with local
dealerships, shops, and an advisory committee to provide students with the
competitive edge in the ever-changing, high-tech training environment. The
program has excellent job placement rates and students earn valuable industry
credentials including ASE certifications
Information on the DVD series is available at filmsmediagroup.com.

CHIPOLA
GETS NEW AMBULANCE SIMULATOR
MARIANNA—Chipola College officials on Wednesday unveiled a new Ambulance
Simulator designed to train first responders.
The Ambulance Simulator replicates the box of an ambulance with all the
usual equipment in tight quarters for a patient and EMT or Paramedic students.
The simulator is also equipped with video cameras to record students during
training scenarios.
A human patient simulator will be used within the ambulance. The patient
simulator can breathe, bleed and talk just like a real patient. Students will be
able to perform basic tasks such as taking patient history, checking vitals,
drawing blood and starting IV fluids.
Chipola instructor Josh Williams says, “This is a valuable tool in
training first responders in a high stress situation.” Instructor Keith Maddox
says, “We can control the patient’s vital signs and speech from a remote
location and observe the student responses to each situation.”
The Ambulance Simulator was purchased with funds from the U.S. Department
of Labor Trade Adjustment Act. The funds were made available by the Florida
Regional Consortium for Technology Enabled Learning Solutions with the goal of
increasing the number of healthcare professionals in this rural area.
Contemporary Interiors of Ocala designed and built the simulator which is
located inside a classroom in the Chipola Health Sciences building.
Vickie Stephens, Chipola’s Dean of Health Science programs, says, “The
new simulator is just one component of a three-year project focused on
increasing the number of EMTs, Paramedics, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)
and bridge students- LPN or Paramedic to RN. The main purpose of the
program is to get people in the workforce trained for a career in health care
within two years.”
In addition to providing funding for the Ambulance Simulator, the funding
also may be used to hire additional instructors as needed.
Prospective students may contact the One-Stop Centers in Marianna,
Blountstown and Chipley to determine eligibility for assistance with program
costs and other services.
