MARIANNA--Dr. Jayne Roberts is the recipient of the December
Faculty/Administrator of the Month Award at Chipola Junior College.
Roberts presently serves as Director of Testing at the college. In
addition to testing and advising students, she teaches a number of courses and
serves as the college's Equity Coordinator.
Dr. Roberts began her career at Chipola as secretary to the Office of
Community Relations and has served as Student Activities Director. While serving
as Compass Club Advisor, Jayne led the club to number one in the nation in 1989.
She currently serves on a number of college committees and chairs the Calendar
Committee. She is active in FACC where she serves on the Executive Board and
serves as co-chair of the social committee. An avid CJC Indian fan, Jayne is an
integral part of the State JUCO Tournament, serving as host committee chair.
Dr.
Joan Miller, Dean of Student Services, said, "Jayne is one of the hardest
working people
on campus. She tackles every task with optimism and a
let's-get-it-done attitude. She
organizes things effectively and efficiently; the completion of the task always
appears effortless, yet I know how hard she worked to make it happen.
After coming to CJC, Jayne completed her A.A. degree.
She then went on to earn a B.S. from FSU, an M.S. from TSUD, and an Ed.D
from FSU. As an employee of an
educational institution, this effort is a demonstration of the highest degree of
professionalism. There is no employee on campus more deserving of this
award."
Jayne is married to Melvin Roberts, a Sales and Marketing Representative
with SouthTrust Bank. The Roberts have three daughters--Heather, Heidi and
Natalie--all graduates of Chipola and FSU, and three grandchildren. The family
is active in the First Baptist Church of Marianna.
The CJC award includes a plaque, reserved parking for a month, a $300
bonus, and a $50 gift certificate from the College Book Store.
Monthly winners are eligible for the annual award.

should contact Chipola Junior College immediately.
Chipola's newly-revised Networking Services Technology program is now
accepting students for the Spring Semester. This Associate in Science (AS)
degree program focuses on computer systems and network support. Courses cover a
broad set of skills and knowledge in computer network administration. The
program provides training for recognized industry certifications including A+
and Network+, as well as the core courses for Microsoft Certified Systems
Engineer (MCSE).
The purpose of the two-year program is to prepare students for employment
as information technology specialists, network control operators, data analysts,
network technicians, computer security specialists, network specialists, network
managers, microcomputer technicians, troubleshooters, WAN/LAN managers, or
systems administrators.
Vikki Milton, Chipola's Networking Services Technology advisor, says,
"Individuals who can design, manage, and support computer networks are
crucial in today's technological environment. Specialists in the IT field are
currently demanding high salaries with companies across the country.
Similar certification programs can cost thousands of dollars, while our
AS degree program offers the same instruction for the standard tuition of $50
per semester hour." Financial aid is available to those who qualify.

improved to 10-2 with a big 85-60 win over Atlanta Metro on Dec. 1.
Brandon Freeman led Chipola with 22 points.
Kareem Johnson scored 19. John
Andrews had 12, and Michael Wilds added 10. Chipola travels to South Georgia
Tech on Dec. 8.

improved to 7-4 with a 78-53 win over Darton College on Dec. 4.
Tamecca Barnes led Chipola with 19 points. Rebecca Montz and Takesha Oden
each scored 12. The Lady Indians had 22 steals and forced 30 turnovers. Satoya
Spates had 10 rebounds, 5 steals, and 7 assists.
Montz, at only 5'5, had 6 offensive rebounds. Barnes had 8 rebounds, 4
assists and 6 steals.
The Lady Indians play Wallace @ Hanceville and Chattanooga in the OW
Classic on Dec. 7-8 in Niceville. The Lady Indians return from the holiday break
to play in the New Year Classic at Gulf Coast on Dec. 29 and 30.

MARIANNA—The
Board of Nursing recently approved significant curriculum changes for the
Chipola Junior College Nursing Programs.
Students will
now be admitted to both the practical (LPN) and associate degree (RN), together
for the first year. The program will admit two classes per year, one in the Fall
and one in the Spring, thus offering all nursing courses twice per year for the
first time. Also, enrollment
capacity has been increased to accept up to 80 students per year.
All students will be required to take pre-requisite courses prior to entry. Pre-requisites include Intermediate Algebra (MAT 1033) or College Algebra (MAC1105), General Psychology (PSY 2012), and Communications Skills I (ENC 1101). To qualify for Anatomy and Physiology (BSC 2093) the first semester in the program as planned, students should take either Introduction to Biology (BSC 1005) or receive departmental approval to take Anatomy and Physiology (BSC 2093) without Introduction to Biology (BSC 1005). The new program also will allow students to take Anatomy and Physiology (BSC 2093) and Anatomy and Physiology II (BSC 2094), and Microbiology (MCB 2010) while in the program, rather than prior to acceptance.
Additionally, all nursing students will be eligible
to take the NCLEX-PN licensure exam following completion of the third semester
in the program. CJC students may
then proceed in the program for two additional semesters and receive an
associate of nursing degree and then be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure
exam.

Health Center. The classic begins Friday, Jan. 4 with Okaloosa-Walton and
Rockingham at 5:30 p.m. Chipola takes on Cayuga at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Jan. 5, Okaloosa-Walton plays Cayuga at 5:30, followed by
Chipola vs. Rockingham at 7:30.
The Chipola women's basketball
team is 7-6 at the break. Satoya Spates is the team's leading scorer,
averaging 16.8 points. She also leads the team in rebounds with a 6.8 average.
Tamecca Barnes leads the team in assists with 4.8 per game, and in steals with a 5.7 average.
The Lady Indians return from the holiday break to play in the New Year
Classic at Gulf Coast. Chipola plays Schoolcraft at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 and Olney
Central at 4 p.m. on Dec. 30.

MARIANNA--Dr. Allen Molineux’s work for brass quintet entitled,
“Lachrymae,” was recently performed in the “New Music Café” Concert by
students of Illinois Wesleyan University.
“New Music Café” is part of the IWU Music Series and is under the
direction of IWU’s composer-in-residence, David Vayo.
Molineux’s “Lachrymae” has received several recent performances
prior to the one at IWU. It was
premiered at the National Meeting of the Society of Composers at Indiana
University and was played last Spring at a regional meeting of the Society of
Composers at Ball State University.
Molineux joined the Chipola Junior College music faculty in 1988, where
he teaches instrumental music and music theory. Since 1971, he has published
more than a dozen original compositions. In addition, he has received numerous
commissions. His published works range
from solos and ensembles for woodwinds, brass and percussion to choral works.
He earned a Bachelor's Degree from DePauw University, a Master's Degree
from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester and a Doctorate
from Florida State University. He previously taught at Barton College, and has
taught music in public schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Molineux also directs the Dothan-based dance band, The Moonlighters. He
lives in Dothan with his wife, Bonnie, and their 10-year old son, Lyle.

MARIANNA--Alborada, The Batista Family Andean Show, hits the Chipola Junior College
stage Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7
p.m., as part of the Chipola Artist Series.
Tickets will be available only at the
door the night of the performance. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. Ticket are
$12 for adults; $8 for ages 18 and under; $4 for CJC students.
Alborada, which means “first light of the morning,” signals the
beginning of a new day for the Batista family as they bring their music to the
world. Led by Milo Batista, Alborda
performs a diverse program of Andean folk music, bringing centuries of cultural
history to concert stages. Batista has played in concert halls throughout the
U.S., including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. His family band has delighted
audiences with their musical expertise and lively sense of humor.
Batista was a popular entertainer for 15 years and was a musical director
of Khenany before forming Alborada. Natives of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico,
the family performs the folk music of Central and South America. The five member
group has entertained audiences worldwide with their unique blend of authentic
Andean music, classical arrangements, and popular tunes. The band include's Milo
Batista—his wife Lordes, son Paul, daughter Jhoanna and nephew Jose Serrano.
The concert will include a diverse selection of traditional Andean music
plus and exciting international repertoire.
Batista's background includes a lifetime career as a teacher of
traditional music and instruments as well as the European classics.
He is a virtuoso on the Andean flutes and has mastered many folk
instruments and styles. Selections of his work were used in the soundtrack for a
National Geographic Society production.
The final offering of the
Artist Series, Dancing on Common Ground, set for Feb. 7, will feature Irish
step-dancers, country cloggers and American tap-dancers.
