Saturday's games begin at Noon with Gulf Coast and Daytona. Tallahassee
meets South Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. Okaloosa-Walton plays Harper at 4 p.m.
Pensacola meets Lee at 6 p.m. Chipola meets Middle Georgia in the 8 p.m. game,
Friday.
CJC head coach Ryan Cross says fans can look for some great basketball
this weekend. "We've got all five Panhandle Conference squads in town,
along with Daytona Beach, the number three team in the nation. It's good for our
conference and gives every team a chance to play a couple of games against some
quality competition. Lee College is always one of the top teams in their
conference. They are led by Andrea Joseph, an early signee with University of
Oregon, and a seven footer Anwar Ferguson, who signed early with University of
Houston," said Cross.
CJC is currently ranked 25th in Street and Smith Magazine. Of the Indians
first few outings, Cross says, "I think we're young and inexperienced, but
we've probably defended a little better than I expected. We've got a nice 8 or
9-man rotation, but it'll take some time for us to gel. We're a little
inconsistent, but by the time February rolls around, we should be a lot better. When you've got nine new guys and only three returnees, it
takes some time to get everyone together."
Cross has been impressed with several key players, especially Brandon
Freeman who is averaging 20 points a game. He says, "John Andrews is
showing how hard he worked this summer, and Kareem Johnson and Wayne Bransom are
going to be very good players for us this year."
The
Lady Indians slipped to 3-2 after a 71-69 loss at Santa Fe CC in Gainesville
Tuesday. Head coach Jason Keene said, "We're trying to get over the loss of
D'Leisha Cockerham who is out for the season with a knee injury."
The Lady Indians travel to a tournament at Gulf Coast this weekend. CJC
plays Seminole Friday and Atlanta Metro Saturday. For
the latest scores, call 718-2CJC, or check out the CJC website at www.chipola.cc.fl.us.
