The Chipola Brain Bowl team finished 3rd in the Community College National Championship held in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend. The top 24 community colleges in the country, who all qualified through sectional tournaments, competed for the championship. Jefferson Community and Technical College from Kentucky won the title, State College of Florida-Manatee took second, and Faulkner State from Alabama finished fourth. The top 4 community colleges will now advance to the four-year college ICT(Intercollegiate Championship Tournament), which will be held in Chicago on April 7th-8th, where they will compete against the top four-years schools in the nation.

The Chipola team advanced through the preliminary bracket by finishing 4-1, and made a good run in the championship bracket, finished with an overall record of 9-2. Chipola just fell short of making it to the championship game, losing a tie-breaker match with State College of Florida-Manatee 265-200. Jefferson then defeated defending champion State College –Manatee 225-185 to win the title.

Chipola A team members are: Chance Pender, Hunter Davis, Alex Tharp, and Turner McCroan

Chipola B team finished 14th out of the 24 team field.

Chipola B team members are: Katie Everett, Haileigh Pippin, Madelynn Lytle, and Donavan Ebersole.

Katie Everett was named a tournament all-star by finishing 7th overall in individual scoring. There were 102 individual competitors.

The Chipola team will next play in the ICT in Chicago on April 7-8, and then in the FCSAA State Tournament on April 14-16.

Chipola A and Chipola B Brain Bowl teams both qualified for the Community College National Championship by finishing first and second respectively at the NAQT North Florida Community College Sectional this past weekend. In all, there were 7 sectionals played across the nation, with 61 teams vying for the 24 spots available in the national championship.

Chipola A finished the sectional tournament with a 10-1 record to claim the title. Chipola A team members are: Hunter Davis, Chance Pender, Turner McCroan, and Alex Tharp. In individual scoring, Hunter finished 3rd, Chance finished 9th , and Turner finished 13th.

Chipola B finished the sectional tournament with a 9-2 record, only losing to Chipola A and Florida Gateway A. Chipola B team members are: Haileigh Pippin, Katie Everett, Ashley Delameter, and Madelyn Lytle.  In individual scoring, Haileigh finished 5th, and Katie finished 7th.

Chipola A will enter the Community College national tournament as the #5 seed, and Chipola B will enter the tournament as the #11 seed.

The Community College national tournament will be held in Atlanta on February 26-27 at the Atlanta Hilton. Chipola finished 6th overall last year.  State College-Manatee are the defending champions. The Chipola team won the national championship in 2011, 2012, and 2013 and runner-up in 2014.

The Chipola A and Chipola B Brain Bowl Teams finished first and second respectively at the Florida Gateway Collegiate Open this past weekend. The 18-team field consisted mostly of teams from the Panhandle and Central Florida. Chipola A finished the tournament   9-0. Chipola B also had a strong showing finishing 7-2.

Chipola A team members are: Hunter Davis, Turner McCroan, and Alex Tharp

Chipola B team members are: Katie Everett, Haileigh Pippin, Donavan Ebersole, and Madelyn Lytle

Three Chipola players finished in the top 6 in individual scoring. Katie Everett finished 3rd overall, Hunter Davis finished 5th, and Turner McCroan finished 6th.

Chipola A finished fourth overall at the 32 team 2015 Delta Burke Tournament held at Valencia College this past weekend. The Chipola team finished second among community college teams, only losing to Manatee (State College) in the championship bracket.

Chipola B also had a strong showing, with a ninth place finish. Both Chipola A and Chipola B finished with an overall record of 7-3.

After the preliminary rounds, Hunter Davis finished as 11th overall in individual scoring, but finished 16th after the playoff rounds. Katie Everett finished 19th, Haileigh Pippin 20th, and Chance Pender was 38th. There were 119 players in the field.
