Florida Atlantic University
Specific Requirements

  1. Application for Admission:  Fee - $20.00

  2. Immunization – Each student must provide documented proof of immunity to measles and rubella, effective Fall Term 1986. Proof is required before you can register at a university.

  3. AA Except for CLAST – Students are admitted and given the full benefit of the AA degree. Such students must register for and take CLAST during their first term of enrollment and pass three of the four parts to remain enrolled past the first semester. All four parts must be passed by the term in which 96 hours are completed to remain enrolled. Exemptions, including those for test scores and grades, from community colleges and universities as they appear on transcripts or are submitted by letter are also accepted.

  4. Recalculating the GPA of Community College AA Degree Transfer Students – The community college GPA will not be recalculated – FAU will honor transcript information from the reporting institution.

  5. Foreign Language Exit/Graduation Requirements – As a general policy, the State University System requires that a student complete two years of the same foreign language in high school, OR two semesters of the same foreign language at the community college. Following are some exceptions and/or additional requirements.

Students with an AA degree (or AA except for CLAST) can be admitted to FAU without fulfilling the foreign language requirement. In this case, the eight-semester-hour foreign language requirement becomes an exit requirement and must be completed before graduation from FAU. Students planning to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree at FAU must complete eight hours of college level foreign language (either at the community college or at FAU), regardless of whether they took foreign language in high school. Psychology and the College of Liberal Arts majors may substitute American Sign Language.

Two years of a single foreign language at a high school level is accepted for the following majors:
-Business majors who opt for B.B.A.
-Education majors who opt for B.A.E. or B.S.E.
-Arts & Humanities majors who opt for B.F.A.
-Architecture, Engineering, Health Administration, Medical Technology, Nursing, Public Management, Social Work and Urban and Regional Planning majors.
