Florida International University
Specific Requirements

  1. Application for Admission:  Fee - $30.00 (paper); $25.00 (online)

  2. Immunization – Each student must provide documented proof of immunity to measles and rubella, effective Fall Term 1986. Proof is required before you can register at a university.

  3. AA Except for CLAST – Students are admitted and may take up to 36 hours of classes at the university. Such students are encouraged to take the CLAST during the first term of enrollment, and must pass all parts of the CLAST before registering for upper division classes beyond the 36-hour limit.

  4. Recalculating the GPA of Community College AA Degree Transfer Students – If a student has earned an AA degree, the community college GPA will not be recalculated. FIU will honor transcript information from the reporting institution.

  5. Foreign Language Exit/Graduation Requirements – As a general policy, the State University System requires that a student complete two years of the same foreign language in high school, OR two semesters of the same foreign language at the community college. Following are some exceptions and/or additional requirements.

It is possible for a student with an AA degree (or AA except for CLAST) to be admitted without fulfilling the foreign language requirement. In this case, the eight-semester-hour foreign language requirement becomes an exit requirement, and must be completed before graduation from FIU. In addition, certain majors may require additional foreign language as an exit requirement. American Sign Language is acceptable.
