Transfer Planner

Check it out! The following is a step-by-step guide for planning your transfer. Check the box before each numbered step you plan to accomplish. As you complete each step in the transfer process, refer to the Transfer Planner Final Check List, and place a check next to the completed function. Note dates where applicable.

1. Record of Contacts

Keep a transfer diary. For each contact with the transfer institution, record the name of the person with whom you spoke, the date, and the type of request. Keep a copy of all obtained in writing from the person making the recommendations from the transfer institution.

2. Admission Requirements

Check with a counselor or advisor to see if you meet the admission requirements for a university or college and the school of your major within the university. It is possible to be admitted to a university, but not the college within the university. Some majors are identified as "limited access" and have additional requirements.

3. Prerequisite Courses

Some majors have required prerequisite courses for admission. Check to see if you have completed the prerequisite courses for the major you have chosen.

4. Visit

You are encouraged to visit a university prior to applying. To visit a campus, check with the articulation office, or the admissions office if the college has no articulation office.

5. Deadline for Admissions Application

Complete and submit an admissions application during your sophomore year in college and at least six (6) months prior to the application deadline for the term you plan to enter. There is a $20 application fee, which is non-refundable. Some "limited access" programs may have a separate deadline.

6. Transcripts

Have original transcripts from all institutions you have attended sent directly to the admissions office. If you are enrolled now, be sure to send a final transcript at the end of the term. The Chipola Transcript Request Form lists the option of either holding for end-of-term grades/grade change/other or processing immediately. Make sure you check the appropriate selection.

7. Financial Aid/Scholarships

If you plan to obtain financial aid, a separate application is required.

8. Housing

If you want housing on or off campus, check with the housing office for assistance. A separate application and deadline may apply. Apply early; housing spaces are limited.

9. Orientation

If an orientation program is offered, check it out. This will help you schedule courses, register, and learn the academic policies. Be sure to take copies of your test scores and an academic transcript to the session.

10. Academic and Registration Policies

Check out the academic and registration policies and procedures; they are usually different from those at the institution you are currently attending. Be careful of drop, withdrawal, and repeat policies.

11. Audition

For some programs in dance, music, theatre, and art, an audition or portfolio may be required.

12. Continuous Enrollment

As long as you maintain continuous enrollment, as defined by the university you plan to attend, your requirements are those specified by the catalog under which you enter; however, you may elect to meet the requirements of the current catalog.

13. Major

During your first year at Chipola, select your major and the university to which you plan to transfer.

Check with your counselor to get course and admission requirements. Indecision can jeopardize admission to a university. If you are undecided on a major, visit our Career Center in Student Services or the Career Resource Center online.

Some majors are "limited access" and have requirements above the AA degree. You must meet these requirements before being admitted into the major.

14. Problems/Help

If you experience any problems in the transfer process, contact the articulation office at the university for assistance. This office can get through the internal offices more easily and get answers faster than you can.

15. Caution – Transfer Without AA Degree

Complete and pass or all sections of the CLAST before transferring.

If you are considering transferring to a university before you receive your AA degree, check the requirements to transfer with an AA degree and without an AA degree.
