Chipola College Theater Director Raines Carr recently selected the cast for the staged reading of “Gee’s Bend” which will be presented on March 31 and April 1 at 7 p.m. in the Experimental Theatre located in the Center for the Arts.

The cast includes: (L-R) Elijah Wells of Chipley, Monica White of Marianna, Precious Ingram of Greenwood, Niya Bright of Bristol, and George Roulhac of Chipley.

A staged reading is theatre in its purest form. No set, props or costumes are used. Actors interact and perform the story with script, similar to listening to an audiobook. With more stories to tell than any theatre could conceivably produce, staged readings allow audience members to experience more great stories at a lower cost to the theatre and give our students the opportunity to perform more pieces.

“Gee’s Bend” depicts the turbulent history of African-Americans in the 20th century by focusing on a single family in the real community of Gee’s Bend, AL, now famous for the beautiful quilts created by the women who grew up there.

This event will have limited seating.  Reserve your ticket at the Chipola Box Office for online at www.chipola.edu/boxoffice.  Open seating will be available the night of the reading if available.
