The mission of the Student Disability Resource Office (SDRO) is to foster student inclusion into the Chipola College community through teaching independence, self-advocacy, and responsibility while maintaining an environment that promotes personal, educational, and social growth. We provide accommodations to students who qualify for services under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
We strive to establish and maintain a partnership with the student, administration, faculty and staff through a framework of mutual understanding and respect. The Student Disability Resource Office will provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations, and ensure equal opportunities and access while maintaining the academic standards of the college.
Accommodations start with you. Services are voluntary and confidential. The college does not automatically know about your disability. Follow the steps below to apply for accommodations.
Registering for Services
Apply and be accepted to the college
Accommodations are available to admitted Chipola College students.
Enroll in courses
Accommodations are made based on the requirements of each course.
Apply for accommodations in MyChipola
Log in to MyChipola and complete the accommodation application. You will need to provide documentation of your disability from a licensed medical professional.
Schedule and attend an intake appointment with the Disability Services Advisor
Once your application and documentation are received, meet with the Disability Services Advisor to review your eligibility and approved accommodations.
Accommodations do not carry over. You must reapply each term you would like to receive them.
Medical Documentation Required
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) stipulates that it is the sole responsibility of the student to provide documentation for the purpose of determining eligibility for services. The following clarifications are provided to assist the student and their diagnostician in determining what information is needed.
- Documentation must be on official letterhead of the physician/professional
- Documentation must be signed and dated by the physician
- Documentation must include diagnosis and recommendations for accommodations
- Documentation must be no more than three years old
IEPs will not be accepted as official documentation.
Parents and legal guardians: before our office can discuss a student's information with a parent or legal guardian, the student must sign a Third Party Release form and have it notarized.
