Chipola College basketball hosts Pensacola Saturday, Jan. 8. The women play at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.

The Lady Indians (15-2, 1-1) opened league play with a 75-52 win over Tallahassee on Jan. 4. Chipola suffered a 69-49 loss to Northwest on Jan. 6.

Chipola is second in the FCSAA Poll, behind Northwest Florida State. Chipola is number six in the NJCAA National Poll and second in the Massey Ratings.

The Lady Indians are averaging 84.9 points per game while giving up only 52.3 points. Jordan McLaughlin and Ta’Shonna Wright-Gaskins lead Chipola’s offense, both averaging more than 16 points per game. Gaskins also leads the team in rebounds with 8.7 per game. McLaughlin is dishing 7.3 assists per game. Chipola’s only misfire of this season was a 71-51 loss to Shelton State on Dec. 31.

The Lady Indians finished in the Final Four of the 2021 NJCAA National Basketball Tournament with a 20-5 overall record and a seventh FCSAA State Championship. In his tenth season at Chipola, head coach Greg Franklin has won three state championships with two second place finishes and a national title in 2015.

The Indians (14-3, 1-1) opened league play with a 92-58 win over Tallahassee on Jan. 4. The Indians fell to Northwest 84-54 on Jan. 6.

Chipola is the number two team in the FCSAA State Poll behind Northwest, and number six in the NJCAA National Poll. Chipola is second in the Massey Ratings.

The Indians are averaging 84.6 points per game this season while giving up only 61.9 points. Nae’qwan Tomlin leads the Indians in scoring with 14.0 points per game. Two other players are averaging in double figures—Shayeon Davis (13.5) and Carlos Lemus (10.8). Falzon Fields is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game.

Chipola was 23-5 last year, with a Panhandle Conference title, an FCSAA State Championship and a final four finish in the National Tournament. In his second year at Chipola, Coach Donnie Tyndall has lost only one home game, an 80-78 misfire to Jones College on Dec. 11.
