Chipola College Hosts 36th Annual Throssell Literature/Language Festival The President’s Reading Contest first-place award was presented to Madison Williams of Bethlehem High School, who received a medallion and a cash prize for outstanding performance.

Students from local area high schools recently participated in the 36th Annual Throssell Literature/Language Festival at Chipola College on Feb. 6, competing in writing, reading, speech, oral interpretation, literature, humanities, grammar, and Spanish contests. The festival, hosted by Chipola’s Letters Department, recognizes and encourages academic excellence among area students.

The President’s Reading Contest first-place award was presented to Madison Williams of Bethlehem High School, who received a medallion and a cash prize for outstanding performance.

In the Writing Contest, first place was awarded to Kah’Myia Brown of Graceville High School, second place to Avery Griffin of Holmes County High School, third place to Phoebe Melnik of Graceville High School, and honorable mentions to Allison Riviere and Addison Richter of Chipley High School.

In the Speech Contest, first place was awarded to Kayson Hawkins of Vernon High School, second place to Jaden Southwell of Malone High School, third place to Joseph Brown of Sneads High School, and honorable mentions to Kenzlie Hayes of Graceville High School and De’Auana Robinson of Chipley High School.

In Oral Interpretation, first place was awarded to Rebecca Patton of Chipley High School, second place to Keira Bowell of Bethlehem High School, third place to Analiah Potter of Liberty County High School, and honorable mentions to Jayla Robinson of Holmes County High School and Andrew Hobbs of Bethlehem High School.

In the Literature Contest, first place was awarded to Jaxson Harrell of Washington County Christian, second place to Maurion Henderson of Chipley High School, third place to Autumn Strausbaugh of Vernon High School, and honorable mentions to Sierra Strickland of Chipley High School and Kendall Jackson of Sneads High School.

In the Humanities Contest, first place was awarded to Ian Hatcher of Malone High School, second place to Trentin Watson of Cottondale High School, third place to Noah Burdeshaw of Liberty County High School, and honorable mentions to Joseph Brown of Sneads High School and Kyler Melvin of Chipley High School.

In the Grammar Contest, first place was awarded to Nylah Brown of Vernon High School, second place to Khloe Nguyen of Chipley High School, third place to Abel Burgess of Cottondale High School, and honorable mentions to Clayton Marshall of Bethlehem High School and Wenceslao Munoz of Sneads High School.

Chipola College congratulates all participants for their dedication and achievement. The Throssell Literature/Language Festival continues to provide a platform for students to develop skills while celebrating academic excellence.
