Chipola College Names Attorney and Businessman Chris Young 2026–27 Outstanding Alumnus

Chipola College has named attorney and businessman Chris Young its 2026–27 Outstanding Alumnus, recognizing his professional success, commitment to serving others and the foundation for his future that began at Chipola.
The announcement was made Monday, Aug. 17 during Chipola’s annual Back to School event, where faculty and staff gathered to kick off the 2026–27 academic year and celebrate the College’s new theme, “Freedom to Become.”
Young, a 1997 Chipola graduate who is a founding partner of Perry & Young and CEO of the Adcock Automotive Group was featured in a special video that premiered during the opening session. The video brought together Chipola alumni from different generations and career paths to share, in their own words, what Chipola gave them the Freedom to Become.
For Young, that freedom began close to home. A native of Altha, Florida, Young chose Chipola after graduating as valedictorian of Grand Ridge High School. He credits the College with helping him grow in confidence while providing the strong academic foundation he needed to continue his education and ultimately pursue a career in law.
After seeing his father experience a life-altering injury, Young chose to build a career helping injured individuals and their families. He continued his education earning his Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 2003. Today, he is a founding partner of Perry & Young, where his work continues to reflect the values of service and compassion that have shaped his career.
In the video, Young reflected not only on what Chipola provided academically, but on the people and experiences that helped prepare him for what came next. His story joined those of other alumni whose paths demonstrate the many ways a Chipola education can open doors and create opportunities.
“Chris Young represents so much of what we hope for every student who walks through our doors,” said Chipola College President Dr. Sarah Clemmons. “We are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished, but we are equally proud of the way he has used his success to serve others. His story is a wonderful example of the Freedom to Become, and we are honored that Chipola was able to play a part in his journey.”
The Outstanding Alumnus recognition celebrates graduates who have distinguished themselves professionally while demonstrating character, leadership and a commitment to their communities. Young and his wife, Ashley, are active supporters of numerous charitable and community organizations throughout the Florida Panhandle.
As Chipola begins a new academic year, Young’s story serves as a reminder that the impact of a college education extends far beyond the classroom. For nearly eight decades, Chipola has helped students discover their strengths, build confidence and prepare for lives and careers that may once have seemed beyond their reach.
From a small college close to home to a successful career in law, Young’s journey reflects the promise behind Chipola’s 2026–27 message: providing students with the opportunities, support and foundation they need to have the Freedom to Become more than they ever imagined.
