The Chipola Future Educator’s Club attended the Florida Future Educators of America Conference in Orlando on Jan. 27-29.

The state conference provides a wonderful opportunity for chapter members to meet with fellow students, chapter advisors, and new and experienced teachers. The conference also provides an opportunity to hear from outstanding teachers and others working in the field of education as they present a shared vision of excellence in future classrooms. The workshops provide important information, ideas and inspiration.

Attendees participate in several competitions related to teaching. This year’s them was “Wild About Teaching.”  Chipola member Rebecca Mercer competed in the Public Speaking Competition, where she delivered a compelling speech responding to the prompt:   "Share about a teacher who has helped to shape who you are. How has that teacher impacted your journey towards becoming an educator?"

Mercer shared the positive impact of local, long-time agricultural teacher, Tony Watkins, who passed away suddenly in September 2022. She won first place for the state and presented her speech to more than 600 participants in the conference closing session.
