Chipola Softball 1-1 in National Tourney

The Chipola Lady Indians picked up an 8-3 ­win over John A. Logan College on May 26 in a consolation bracket game. Chipola moves on to face the loser of Florida Southwestern and Seminole State on Wednesday, May 26, at 10 p.m. Central.

Chipola suffered a 5-0 loss to Wallace-Hanceville in the first round of the NJCAA National Softball Tournament on May 25. Wallace pitcher Haylee Folds was dominant on Tuesday as the Lady Indians moved to (25-18). Folds struck out seven in the contest and never allowed a Chipola player to touch third base. The Lady Indians had three hits in the game with Ava Worthy, Natalie Kopicova, and Marley Sims each getting a single.

Zayla McBurrows (12-6) took the loss for Chipola, allowing three runs on five hits. McBurrows struck out five and walked only one.

Chipola will begin their fight to remain alive in Yuma, Arizona with 13 seed John A. Logan College (Illinois). The Lady Vols fell to Grayson College on Tuesday, 6-0. First pitch from Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex is Wednesday at noon central.

The Lady Indians are making their sixth consecutive national tournament appearance and, by virtue of their win in 2019, hold the title of defending National Champions. This is the ninth appearance overall in the national tournament for the Lady Indians, all under Head Coach Belinda Hendrix. In her 18 seasons at the helm of Chipola softball, Coach Hendrix's teams have won the National Championship three times (2007, 2015, and 2019) and have finished runner-up twice (2016 and 2018).

The tournament is being played at Avenue Athletic Complex in Yuma, Arizona.
