Chipola Theatre Announces Staged Reading Of Gee’s Bend

The Chipola College 2022 Theatre season continues with the stage reading of Gee’s Bend on March 31 and April 1 at 7 p.m. in the Experimental Theatre located in the Center for the Arts.

A staged reading is theatre in its purest form. No set, props or costumes are used. Actors interact and perform the story with script, similar to listening to an audiobook. With more stories to tell than any theatre could conceivably produce, staged readings allow audience members to experience more great stories at a lower cost to the theatre and give our students the opportunity to perform more pieces.

Gee’s Bend depicts the turbulent history of African-Americans in the 20th century by focusing on a single family in the real community of Gee’s Bend, AL, now famous for the beautiful quilts created by the women who grew up there.

This event will have very limited seating. Admission is free but reservations are encouraged. Open seating will be available the night of the reading if available.
