Chipola Theatre Announces The 2023-2024 Season

Published:

The Chipola College Theatre Department announces its 2023-2024 season with an exciting line-up for all ages.

Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word in Neil Simon’s comedy, Barefoot in the Park (Oct. 13-15, 2023). He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find – too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic, Velasco, where everything that can go wrong does. Paul just doesn’t understand Corie, as she sees it. He’s too staid, too boring, and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. Running “barefoot in the park” would be a start….  ACT Fund memberships may be purchased beginning Aug. 21. ACT Fund members may redeem their tickets beginning Aug. 21. General tickets may be purchased at the CFA Box Office or online at www.chipola.edu/boxoffice beginning Sept. 11.  “Up on the Roof” Opening Night Reception will be held Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Experimental Theatre.  Join us for “bubbly” and hors d’oeuvres on our New York terrace before the show. Nominated for 7 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins (Feb. 22-25, 2024) comes to Chipola’s stage. Mary Poppins is the story of the Banks family who live in a big house in London on Cherry Lane. Things are not going well for the family, the children, Jane and Michael, are out of control and are in need of a new nanny. Jane and Michael have their own ideas about what sort of caretaker they should have, while their parents—and in particular Mr. Banks—are insistent on someone strict for the job. When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she’s the answer to their prayers, but in the most peculiar way. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “anything can happen if you let it.” ACT Fund memberships may be purchased beginning Aug. 21. Based on the popular “Fancy Nancy” books, Fancy Nancy the Musical (May 9-10, 2024) has an acclaimed Off-Broadway run, two national tours and over 100 productions worldwide. Fancy Nancy and her friends Bree, Rhonda, Wanda, and Lionel are going to be performing in their very first show, “Deep Sea Dances.” Nancy is positive, that’s fancy for 100 percent sure, that she and Bree will be picked to be mermaids. When another girl wins the coveted role of the mermaid, Nancy is stuck playing a dreary, dull tree. Can Nancy bring fancy flair to her role, even though it isn’t the one she wanted?
