Chipola to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Week Sept. 28-Oct. 1

Chipola College will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Week Sept. 28-Oct. 1 with a series of activities highlighting Hispanic and Latino culture, history and traditions.

Events will be held each day from noon to 1 p.m. in Building C, Room 113, and are open to Chipola students and employees.

The week’s activities will begin Monday, Sept. 28, with Lotería, a traditional Mexican bingo-style game, along with a social featuring cookies and beverages. On Tuesday, Sept. 29, participants can take part in a craft and coloring contest featuring bracelets, flowers, coloring activities and more.

Wednesday, Sept. 30, will focus on Latin American economics and Latin dance. The celebration will conclude Thursday, Oct. 1, with a program featuring Latin history and urban legends. The winner of the week’s coloring contest also will be announced during Thursday’s event.

Students in the Social Sciences, Humanities and Sociology (SSHS) programs are encouraged to wear orange shirts Thursday in recognition of Indigenous Day.

Hispanic Heritage Week is being held in conjunction with National Hispanic Heritage Month, observed annually from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The month recognizes the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Chipola students and employees are encouraged to stop by throughout the week, participate in the activities and learn more about the cultures, history and traditions celebrated during Hispanic Heritage Month.
