Chipola’s Coach Johnson Picks Up 900th Win

Chipola College baseball coach Jeff Johnson picked up his 900th career win Feb. 27 in a 4-2 victory over San Jacinto College in game two of the doubleheader between the powerhouse programs.

The Indians recorded 20 strikeouts in the win, including 12 from starter Andrew Baker. Baker pitched 6 innings, allowing four hits and zero runs. Michael Esposito threw the last 2.1 innings to record the save, striking out 7 and only giving up one hit.

A three-time NJCAA Coach of the Year, Johnson has amassed a career college record of 900-410-2. Johnson also won 152 high school games in his eight years coaching Marianna and Liberty County High Schools.

Johnson's Chipola squads have won three National Championships, six FCSAA State Championships, and thirteen Panhandle Conference Championships.

Chipola is currently ranked second in the NJCAA rankings with a 16-5 record. The Indians host Andrew College, March 6, at 3 p.m. Chipola opens the Panhandle Conference with a March 9, 5 p.m., home game against Tallahassee.
