PBL Wins Leadership Conference

Chipola PBL had a successful state conference in Orlando as Chipola’s Spring Break began. At the State Leadership Conference held March 16-19 in Orlando, Chipola students brought home 7 Top-5 awards, with three 1st place; two 2nd place; one 4th place; and one 5th place award.

The students who competed this year were:

Christopher Brockington of Malone: Senior, BSBA-Management

David Charles of Greenwood: Sophomore, Engineering

Chad Mayo of Bonifay: Sophomore, Computer Science

Angelina Hereld of Blountstown: Sophomore, Animal Science

Cullan Murray of Chipley: Senior, BSBA-Accounting

Jeremy Thomason of Vernon: Senior, BSBA-Information Systems

The opening session’s guest speaker was Melanie S. Griffin, the Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, who provided an inspirational speech and discussion about education and career pathways. Chipola students also attended business sessions, business panels (with four interesting professionals), and fantastic business tours to: AdventHealth; Orlando Venues; Hilton-Orlando; SeaWorld-Orlando; and Withum Advisory, Tax and Audit Services.

The highlight of the conference was the competitive events, which our students prepared for over the past few months.  Chipola students have qualified to compete at the 2023 FBLA Collegiate (formerly named PBL) National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA, in late June.

Christopher Brockington of Malone placed first in public speaking, Chad Mayo of Bonifay placed first in Help Desk, second in Programming Concepts and second in Management Concepts.  Cullan Murray of Chipley placed first in Accounting, David Charles of Greenwood placed fourth in Business Law and Jeremy Thomason of Vernon placed fifth in Computer Concepts.
