The Chipola College Social and Behavioral Sciences Department and Black Student Union sponsor the Annual Black History Month Celebration in February. Community sponsors include the Jackson County Health Department, Asphalt Paving Systems, and more. A guest speaker is invited to expand on the provided theme of the event.
The focus of this event is to unite the community, inform them about the African-American culture, and the contributions they have made to society. The event is open to the public.
The last attended Black History Month Celebration was held in February 2020.
2020 Black History Month Celebration
In 2021, due to the global pandemic, the Black History Month Celebration was reinvented. An essay contest was created for area school students. The essay contest was a success as three area schools participated. Three students were selected as winners and were provided monetary prizes. The essay contest will continue to be part of the Black History Month Celebrations in the future.
The Chipola College Black History Month Celebration is scheduled for Friday, February 25 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Chipola College Cultural Arts Center located on College Street.
