A course designed for students who desire general keyboard proficiency. Primary emphasis is on development of music reading and playing for personal satisfaction. Course may be repeated for maximum credit of 2 semester hours.

Means of accomplishing learning outcomes:

The instructor will provide lessons designed to teach students general keyboard proficiency via a combination of lectures, in-class exercises, collaboration, and out-of-class assignments. Students will be assigned a laboratory piano station. Music will be assigned and concepts will be explained in class as each new unit of study is encountered. The instructor will monitor individual progress, and group experiences will be a feature of each class period. The instructor will hold weekly office hours to address further questions and student needs outside of class time. The final grade will be based on class participation and skills performance.

Students are expected to:

  • Arrive to class on time
  • Participate and be focused in class
  • Practice outside of class time
  • Complete all written assignments, quizzes and final exam
