Chipola’s Martinez Is Fcsaa Player of the Week

Chipola’s Janelle Martinez has been named FCSAA Region 8 Softball Player of the Week. The freshman outfielder from Puerto Rico is batting .615 with four runs, three doubles, ten RBI and three stolen bases.

In the Lady Indians' win in game one of a doubleheader against L.B. Wallace Community College, Martinez was 4-for-4 with five RBI. She followed that performance up by going 4-for-6 with four RBI and three stolen bases in a doubleheader vs. Lansing Community College.

The Lady Indians are currently ranked seventh in the NJCAA and second in the FCSAA. Chipola is 26-2 on the season and on a 10-game win streak.

Coach Kelly Brookins' squad will begin Panhandle Conference play on March 19 at Frank Brown Park in Panama City.

All five Panhandle teams will participate in a round-robin tournament to kick-off the conference season. On Friday, March 18, the Lady Indians will take on Northwest Florida at 1 p.m. and Tallahassee at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, Chipola will face Pensacola at 2:30 p.m. and Gulf Coast at 5 p.m.
