Donna Huff Receives Chipola College's Kirkland Award for Excellence in Teaching

Mathematics Instructor Donna Huff was honored by her peers as the recipient of the 2026 Kirkland Award for Excellence in Teaching during the Chipola College Commencement Ceremony.
Huff joined the Chipola College faculty in 2022 and teaches Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Trigonometry. Since arriving at Chipola, she has earned a reputation as an exceptional educator who combines high academic standards with a genuine commitment to student success. Colleagues describe her as a dependable and dedicated faculty member whose professionalism, reliability, and passion for teaching make a lasting impact on both students and fellow employees.
Known for her patient and student-centered approach, Huff employs effective teaching strategies that help students navigate challenging mathematical concepts with confidence. Her ability to break down complex material into accessible lessons creates an environment where students feel supported and empowered to succeed. One nomination noted that she “demonstrates patience and adaptability, ensuring that even the most challenging learners have the opportunity to succeed.”
Beyond the classroom, Huff is recognized for her willingness to support departmental and institutional initiatives. Colleagues praise her strong work ethic, collaborative spirit, and readiness to contribute wherever needed. She consistently volunteers for projects and activities that benefit the college community and exemplifies the values of service and collegiality.
Perhaps most importantly, Huff is known for the care and encouragement she provides to her students. One colleague wrote, “Her classroom is a place where students feel respected and valued, which contributes greatly to their confidence and persistence.” Through individualized attention and unwavering support, she helps students overcome obstacles and achieve their academic goals.
The Kirkland Award for Excellence in Teaching was established by brothers J.R. and David Kirkland in memory of their parents, the late Willis and Carolyn Kirkland of Marianna. The award includes a $1,000 honorarium and is presented annually to outstanding faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and service to students.
