Phi Beta Lambda

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is a business-centric organization that is open to any current student at Chipola College.  PBL is the collegiate version of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) that exists in many junior high and high schools.

FBLA-PBL is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) education association with a quarter million students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.  FBLA-PBL has four divisions:

  1. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) for high school students;

  2. FBLA-Middle Level for junior high, middle, and intermediate school students;

  3. Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) for postsecondary students;

  4. Professional Division for business people, FBLA-PBL alumni, educators, and parents who support the goals of the association.

FBLA-PBL is the largest business career student organization in the world with 215,000 high school students; 20,000 middle level students; 11,000 college students; and 3,000 professional division members.  Read more about FBLA-PBL at:

Chipola PBL members participate in many activities throughout the academic year -- community service, competitions, fundraising, and college-specific activities.  Through these interactions, members build skills that will make them good employees and good leaders.

PBL encourages students to:

  • Develop competent, aggressive business leadership.
  • Strengthen confidence in themselves and their work.
  • Create an interest in and understanding of American business enterprise.
  • Create individual projects which contribute to the improvement of home, business and community.
  • Develop character, prepare for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism.
  • Practice efficient money management.
  • Promote school loyalty and scholarship.
  • Establish occupational goals.
  • Transition from school to work.

Chipola College PBL Activities:

  • Community Service:  PBL members participate in numerous community service projects, aiding various entities in Jackson and surrounding counties.  Some of the projects/entities are: Senior Day; March of Dimes; Partners for Pets; Jackson County BackPack for Kids; Habitat ReStore; Champs Camp; STEM Projects; FlipFlops for Haiti; FBLA District Competition.
  • College Activities:  PBL members actively represent their organization at the Chipola College's annual Fall Festival and Spring Frolics events, as well as Homecoming.  Go Indians!!
  • State Leadership Conference:  Members interested in competing at the SLC have numerous competitive events to choose from, often competing in three.  Chipola competes against PBL members from other colleges, universities and vocational/technical schools in the state of Florida.  Our PBL members typically place in the Top-5 at this conference.  First and second place winners qualify to compete at the National PBL Leadership Conference, which is held in one of the five regions of the United States.  A few of the national conference locations where PBL members have traveled include:  Anaheim, CA; San Antonio, TX; Nashville, TN; Chicago, IL; and Atlanta, GA.
  • National Leadership Conference:  Qualifying members advance to the National PBL Leadership Conference where they participate in competitive events, leadership/career development workshops, and team building exercises.  Members usually have enough free time to sightsee, and, as mentioned above, the NLC is in a different location of the nation every year, which makes this an interesting trip.
