Programs of Study

The School of Business and Technology offers the following options. The specific courses for each option and the recommended semester of each course are detailed in our Academic Pathways.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) 

The School of Business and Technology offers bachelor's degrees in four concentrations:

  • BSBA Accounting Concentration (4040)

    This program prepares students for jobs in both the financial and managerial accounting areas including auditing, financial statement preparation, and taxation fields. Students are also encouraged to pursue specific accounting certification designations.

  • BSBA Engineering Management Concentration (4043)

    This program prepares students for management positions within the multidisciplinary environment of engineering and technology. Students will gain a greater exposure to communications, leadership, and business expertise both in the classroom and via internships. An Engineering Management specialization at Chipola College will assist students with advancing in leadership positions pertinent to civil, computer, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering, as well as in the fields of construction and maintenance.

  • BSBA Information Systems Concentration (4042)

    This program prepares students for jobs in the fields of information technology with areas of focus that include business continuity, computer networks, telecommunications, databases, development, programming, project management, and security. Students may also pursue multiple technology certification designations.  

  • BSBA Management Concentration (4041)

This program prepares students for positions in supervisory and management roles, in profit and non-profit organizations -- including business, service, manufacturing, distribution, and retail industries.

Associate in Arts (A.A.)  

The Associate in Arts degree is intended for students who plan to attend a Florida college or university (including Chipola College) to complete their bachelor's degree. Of the 60 hours required to complete an Associate in Arts degree, 36 must be in General Education courses. Within these 60 semester hours, students should fulfill the prerequisite course requirements for the major at the institution of choice. Refer to the college catalog for greater detail about our programs and the course requirements. 

Students who plan to pursue a Bachelor's degree at another university should refer to the Academic Pathway for that university (or compare the choices of universities that have the major/program) and verify the information on the specific university's website. This will help the student enroll in the required courses as prescribed by that university. 

  • Business Administration (1020)

    This program prepares students for employment as managers in a variety of business environments, such as an owner/manager for a small business, or for continued education beyond the Associate degree level. Students who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in any area of business at a four-year college or university may instead fulfill the Associate in Arts degree requirements for a major in Business at the chosen transfer school. 

  • Computer Science (1035 and 1036)

    This program prepares students for careers in computer science and related fields, with a broad based background in programming language skills, theoretical computer science, and hardware. Visit Academic Pathways to locate the specific pathway desired.

  • Information Technology (1047)

    This program focuses on developing technical and managerial competency and specifically deals with effectively utilizing information for operations and organizational decision making.  A special focus on understanding communications and network structure is also provided. Visit Academic Pathways to locate the specific pathway desired.

  • Management Information Systems (1038) 

    This program prepares students with the foundational information technologies; the ability to identify the user requirements for information technology; the ability to identify current and emerging technologies; the ability to work in project teams to implement IT solutions; and be well-versed in project management methods for complex environments. The curriculum highlights critical thinking, problem-solving techniques. and communication skills. Visit Academic Pathways to locate the specific pathway desired.

Associate in Science (A.S.)

The Associate in Science degree includes many courses that are transferable to Florida colleges and universities.  Each A.S. degree contains a minimum of 15 hours of general education courses. Refer to the college catalog for additional degree and/or program requirements. 

Students who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at another university should refer to the Academic Pathway for that university (or compare the choices of universities that have the major/program) and verify the information on the specific university's website. This will help the student enroll in the required courses as prescribed by that university. 

  • Business Administration (2185) 

    This program prepares students for employment as managers in a variety of business environments such as an owner/manager for a small business, or for continued education beyond the Associate degree level. Students who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in any area of business at a four-year college or university may instead fulfill the Associate in Arts degree requirements for a major in Business at the chosen transfer school. 

  • Computer Information Technology (2172)

    This program prepares students for entry-level positions as microcomputer support specialists, help desk representatives, and software application technicians.  Content includes topics and skills emphasized in various industry certifications including the CompTIA A+, Security+, and Network+ as well as various Microsoft network certifications (MTA, MTICP). Students holding valid current IT industry certifications should contact a department advisor about credit that may be awarded for selected courses based on such certifications. 

  • Networking Systems Technology (2181, 2182, and 2183)

    This program prepares students for entry-level positions as network support technicians, network administrators, network security personnel, and digital forensic technicians.  Content includes topics and skills emphasized in various industry certifications including the CompTIA A+, Security+, and Network + as well as various Microsoft network certifications (MTA, MTICP).   Students holding valid current IT industry certifications should contact a department advisor about credit that may be awarded for selected courses based on such certifications. 

College Credit Certificates

The following technology-based college credit certificates help prepare students for entry-level positions in the IT workforce. Students are strongly encouraged to pursue industry certifications (such as those offered by CompTIA and Microsoft) that are aligned with the courses within each certificate's program of study. Students will work closely with the technology instructors to help assess their readiness for the industry certification examinations.
